Former Minister Shah Requests Development Plans for Kapilvastu

Former Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives and Constituent Assembly member, Akbal Ahmad Shah, has urged the federal government to introduce various plans for the overall development of Kapilvastu.

Shah, who is also a leader of the CPN-UML, has emphasized the need to prioritize health, education, agriculture, livestock, physical infrastructure, and irrigation development in Kapilvastu, advocating for these initiatives with the concerned ministries.

On Wednesday, Shah met with the Minister of Energy, Water Resources, and Irrigation, Deepak Khadka, and requested the expansion of irrigation facilities and measures to control river erosion in Kapilvastu. Specifically, he called for budget allocation to prevent erosion caused by the Surahi River in Krishnanagar Municipality-1 and the construction of embankments on the Chargaha River in Narayandihwa of Krishnanagar-12. He stated that these measures are necessary as river erosion has significantly damaged fertile agricultural land in Kapilvastu.

Additionally, Shah requested plans for controlling the Surahi River in the Aurahawa area of Krishnanagar Municipality and for constructing embankments on the Chirahi River in Thakurapur Katwa and Geduwajot of Bijaynagar Rural Municipality. He further highlighted the lack of irrigation facilities in Ward No. 3 (Patthardehiya) and Ward No. 4 (Bargadwa) of Bijaynagar Rural Municipality and urged the minister to arrange for tubewells or deep boring systems to address this issue.

In response, Minister Deepak Khadka assured Shah of the government’s commitment to the development of Kapilvastu, stating that special attention would be given to controlling river erosion. He also mentioned plans to visit Kapilvastu for on-site monitoring in the coming days and expressed his gratitude to Shah for taking the initiative in advocating for development projects.
